Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services is pleased to announce enhancements to blood collection services at the Deer Lake Medical Clinic, located at 4 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake.

Effective January 27, 2025, patients in the area can choose from walk-in appointments or conveniently book their blood collection appointments online through the Swiftqueue online platform. This appointment booking tool has successfully been in place at blood collection clinics in St. John’s since 2022.

“We are excited to introduce these enhancements to blood collection services at the Deer Lake Medical Clinic,” said Corey Murray, senior provincial director, pathology and laboratory medicine program, NL Health Services. “The addition of online booking tools and other improvements reflect our commitment to providing efficient, accessible, and patient-centered health care. These upgrades will streamline appointment scheduling, reduce wait times, and improve the overall experience for patients in the Deer Lake area.”

To book appointments, patients must visit the Swiftqueue online platform. Once patients select their appointment time, they will be prompted to sign in to their account or register as a new user. This system enables users to view appointment availability, as well as book, reschedule, or cancel appointments. Once an appointment is booked, patients will receive an automated email or text message confirming the date and time.

If a patient is unable to schedule an appointment themselves, family members can assist by booking and tracking blood collection appointments for children, siblings, parents, or grandparents. For more information or to book an appointment, please visit the Swiftqueue platform here. Patients can also call 709-635-4021 for assistance.

In addition to implementing this appointment booking system, NL Health Services is enhancing blood collection services in Deer Lake with:

  • Renovations: Renovations to the clinic, set to continue over the next several months, include adding a second sample collection room to enhance the flow of patients through the system, which will enable the intake?? of more patients.
  • Staffing: A receptionist and medical laboratory assistant (MLA) will join the clinic staff to help. The receptionist will manage walk-in and online appointment registrations, while the MLA will coordinate patient call-ins and blood collection details.
  • NL Health Services remains dedicated to improving access to health care and ensuring efficient, accessible services for all residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.
