Next Phase in Resumption of Health-Care Services in Labrador City
As the evacuation order for Labrador City has now been lifted, Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises residents that a return to normal operations at the Labrador West Health Centre in Labrador City is ongoing.
Appointments at Labrador West Health Centre
Effective Tuesday, July 23 at 8 a.m., the Ambulatory Care Clinic will reopen at the Labrador West Health Centre. The temporary ambulatory clinic that was established in Wabush is now closed and will no longer be linked to 811.
All previously scheduled appointments at the Labrador West Health Centre (such as prenatal, surgical services, specialty clinics, rehabilitation, laboratory and diagnostic imaging) have not yet resumed. Patients will be contacted to reschedule in the coming days. We appreciate the public’s patience as we work through the rebooking process.
Prescriptions
Patients requiring new prescriptions and/or prescription refills, are advised to return to their normal process prior to the evacuation (i.e. contacting a primary health care provider or local pharmacy, depending on the need). 811 has concluded offering prescription services for evacuees and those displaced by the fire.
The 811 Healthline is still accessible to residents for other health concerns, but will no longer be linked to the temporary prescription service.
Emergency Services
The public is reminded that the Labrador West Health Centre Emergency Department is now fully operational. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911.
Mental Health Supports
NL Health Services recognizes that this has been a difficult time for people and encourages them to avail of mental health resources. For a full listing of available resources, please visit: https://nl.bridgethegapp.ca/adult/mental-health-services-during-natural-disasters-and-emergencies/ or call 811 in a mental health crisis.
We appreciate the public’s understanding during this phase of reopening, as we continue to bring our employees back to the community and prepare for a full re-opening of the facility and services in the days ahead. A further public update on the final phase of reopening will be provided once details are confirmed.
