Steamplicity® Expanding to Carbonear General Hospital
Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services, in partnership with Compass One Healthcare, a division of Compass Group Canada, is pleased to announce that the Steamplicity® food delivery service model has expanded to include Carbonear General Hospital.
“Ensuring we provide nutritious, appetizing food is a large part of the holistic, person-centred care NL Health Services strives to provide to patients,” said Debbie Walsh, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Eastern-Rural Zone. “Steamplicity® promotes health, healing, comfort and individual preferences by enabling patients to make their own meal selections at bedside. We are looking forward to bringing these benefits to our patients at Carbonear General Hospital.”
Steamplicity® offers a unique and innovative approach to providing healthy, nutritious, and balanced meals by cooking fresh ingredients using steam pressure. Patients will be able to make their own meal selections from a restaurant-style menu at their bedside two to three hours before lunch and dinner service and the day before for breakfast service. Meal selections are taken using an iPad, allowing for verification of diet orders and allergy compliance. Meals are assembled and pressure-cooked in microwaves using an innovative valve control system just minutes before service.
Steamplicity® has been successfully implemented in facilities across NL Health Services, beginning in 2018 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, and subsequently expanded to the Health Sciences Centre, Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre, Dr. L.A. Miller Centre, and Waterford Hospital. It is also in use at many other centres across Canada.
“As we have seen from implementation at other health-care sites, the benefits of Steamplicity® include better quality and more nutritious food, flexibility in service times and less food waste,” continued Debbie Walsh, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Eastern-Rural Zone. “More importantly, we have also seen increased patient satisfaction, which consistently rates above 80 per cent”
