Emergency Medical Responder Educational Opportunities
Overview
Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services is offering an emergency medical responder (EMR) certification program for individuals interested in becoming EMRs. Training and employment opportunities will be offered across the province, beginning with an online and in-person training session in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador from January 12-25, 2025.

NL Health Services will provide financial support to successful applicants to cover the cost of the program (course and training materials), which includes online instruction and four days of in-person training through a training provider. Individuals who successfully complete the course and meet all other requirements will be hired with a return in service agreement with the provincial health authority.
EMR training opportunity (Happy Valley-Goose Bay):
- The current training opportunity will take place from January 12-25, 2025 (online instruction and four days of in-person training in Happy Valley-Goose Bay). The deadline to apply was December 14, 2024.
- NL Health Services will provide financial support to successful applicants to cover the cost of the EMR certification program (course and materials).
- Reimbursement for travel, accommodation, and meals for in-person training will be provided based on eligibility criteria.
- Note: Following EMR training, individuals will be required to pass the Canadian Organization of Paramedic Regulators (COPR) exam.
- Employment opportunities with NL Health Services will be available to applicants who are successful in the recruitment process, course, COPR exam and meet all the conditions of employment.
Examples of key duties:
- Responding to medical emergencies, operating the ambulance safely, and transporting patients requiring urgent care;
- Conducting patient assessments during transport, monitoring their condition, and providing stabilization as needed; and
- Assessing and treating a range of injuries and illnesses, from trauma to respiratory emergencies.

- Salary: Successful candidates will be offered a competitive salary range of $23.78 to $26.19 per hour.
- Shiftwork: 75 bi-weekly hours; shifts will vary and include days, nights, weekends, on-call, and standby hours.
