Posted: July 23, 2024

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services is pleased to advise residents that all services have now resumed at the Labrador West Health Centre in Labrador City.

Repatriation of Patients and Residents

All inpatients and long-term care residents who were evacuated to the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay have now returned to Labrador West Health Centre, with the exception of those who still require additional supports or services at another facility.

Previously Scheduled Appointments at Labrador West Health Centre

The public is reminded that the ambulatory care clinic is now open at the Labrador West Health Centre. Previously scheduled appointments (such as prenatal, surgical services, specialty clinics, rehabilitation, laboratory and diagnostic imaging) have resumed. We appreciate the public’s understanding as we work through the rebooking process for those that were impacted by the evacuation and are proceeding with urgent/emergent needs as a priority.

811 Services

The 811 Healthline continues to be available to residents for health concerns but will no longer serve as a temporary prescription service or refer patients to the temporary ambulatory care clinic in Wabush, which is now closed.

Mental Health Supports

NL Health Services recognizes that this has been a difficult time for people and encourages them to avail of mental health resources. For a full listing of available resources, please visit: https://nl.bridgethegapp.ca/adult/mental-health-services-during-natural-disasters-and-emergencies/ or call 811 in a mental health crisis.

NL Health Services extends a sincere thank you to employees and physicians for their exceptional commitment to providing safe, quality care for patients, clients and residents of the Town of Wabush, as well as essential service providers in the Town of Labrador City, during the evacuation order. We also thank employees who were evacuated to Happy Valley-Goose Bay and continued to provide care to evacuated patients and residents at the Labrador Health Centre.
