At Newfoundland and Labrador Health services, we value the contributions of every person who helps make our health-care system better and stronger. We rely on those with lived experiences to keep us informed on how we are doing and to help us address the needs of the communities we serve.

There are many ways you can get involved, from becoming a volunteer with NL Health Services to participating in public engagement activities.

We value your feedback on potential decisions, issues and opportunities. NL Health Services has adopted a Public Engagement Framework that outlines our commitment to public participation.

NL Health Services’ province-wide Community Health Assessment (CHA) is currently underway. Approximately 50,000 people living across all regions of Newfoundland and Labrador will be randomly selected to take part in a confidential survey to share their perspectives on health, wellness and access to care in their communities.

If you have received an invitation to participate in the survey or join one of our focus group sessions, please take part. Your responses are confidential, and your opinion matters.

Survey results will be used by our primary care teams to support community-level planning, with open public engagement opportunities to follow.

Community Advisory Committees (CACs) across the province engage community members, including clients and their families, to help plan, implement and evaluate primary health-care services. Our CACs are valuable resources that collaborate with health-care teams to improve the health of our communities.

NL Health Services created the MyVoiceNL program to collect feedback and measure experience of care across our services. Through surveys, we learn about our patients’ experience of care and understand our strengths and areas for improvement. As part of our commitment to foster a learning health and social system, we use the results to support planning and quality improvement projects.

A patient and family experience advisor is someone who has received care in recent years, has had multiple past experiences as a patient or family supporter, and is willing to share their experience to make a positive impact in health care. These individuals play a key role in shaping better care for everyone.

NL Health Services has over 100 patient and family experience advisors across the province. They participate in many ways, from providing input on projects or activities to joining advisory councils and participating in leadership recruitment.
