Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services has concluded its investigation into allegations of misconduct against a staff member at Pleasant View Towers long-term care facility in St. John’s. The investigation determined that the allegations made in anonymous letters were not founded.

Dignity and respect for our patients along with their safety and wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do, and there is zero tolerance in our organization for any form of abuse or neglect. That is why once we learned of the alleged claims of potential misconduct on September 6, we immediately put safety first and placed a staff member on leave, contacted the relevant parties, and initiated a robust investigation process over the last seven days. During that time, we implemented a number of additional actions to support residents and families.

All families, substitute decision makers, and the affected staff member have been notified and we are working to reintegrate the employee back to the workplace. We are also further investigating the origins of the anonymous letters.

We apologize to all those affected by this investigation; and thank them and our staff for their cooperation and understanding throughout the process.
