NL Health Services Achieves National Standards of Excellence in Central and Labrador-Grenfell Zones
Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services announced today that its Central and Labrador-Grenfell Zones achieved “Accredited” standing from Accreditation Canada. In June of this year, Accreditation Canada surveyors visited program areas to assess compliance with national quality and safety standards in leadership and clinical programs and services. The Western, Eastern-Rural and Eastern Urban Zones completed the accreditation process earlier this year.
“NL Health Services is committed to continuously working to meet or exceed accreditation standings,” said Karen Stone, KC, CEO (Interim), NL Health Services. “The accreditation process provides important guidance to staff and physicians in their daily work which helps to ensure safe, quality care for patients, clients and long-term care residents.”
Central Zone (formerly Central Health) and Labrador-Grenfell Zone (formerly Labrador-Grenfell Health) participated in a survey model with Accreditation Canada. During this time, surveyors visited a total of 24 acute care, long-term care, community health, and administrative sites to assess over 5,200 criteria. Many areas were assessed against Accreditation Canada requirements for quality and safety, such as Indigenous Integrated Primary Care; Ambulatory Care Services; Community Health Services; Community-Based Mental Health Services and Supports; Diagnostic Imaging Services; Emergency Department; Home Care Services; Infection Prevention and Control; Inpatient Services; and Long-Term Care Services. A full list of the areas assessed, as well as reports, can be found here for Central Zone and here for Labrador-Grenfell Zone.
The Accreditation Canada reports for both Labrador-Grenfell Zone and Central Zone state: “The organization is commended on its commitment to using accreditation to improve the quality and safety of the services it offers to its clients and its community.”
NL Health Services extends appreciation to all those who were involved in the on-site surveys.
The provincial health authority is working towards a new provincial accreditation cycle beginning in 2025.
