NL Health Services Offering Pap Test Clinics in Central and Eastern Zones

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services is pleased to advise that a series of Pap clinics are being offered throughout the province in the coming weeks. In the Central and Eastern Zones, clinics will be held on:

Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Women’s Health Clinic at Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s. Individuals can call (709) 777-3018 or (709) 777-7460 to book an appointment.

Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Dr. Y.K. Jeon Kittiwake Health Centre in New-Wes-Valley. Individuals can call (709) 536-1118 to book an appointment.

Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the Placentia Health Centre in Placentia. Individuals can call (709) 227-4105 to book an appointment.

All appointments will be booked on a first come, first served basis, and are open to anyone. A referral from a primary care provider is not required.

A Pap test is a simple procedure that can help prevent cancer of the cervix. The Canadian Cancer Society recommends that individuals with a cervix who are sexually active, schedule regular Pap testing by age 21. Patients should make every effort to schedule regular Pap tests and to schedule follow-up appointments as Pap testing can identify cell changes before cancer develops, allowing for timely treatment.

Following Pap testing, approximately one in 10 individuals may have an abnormal result. Clients with abnormal test results will receive follow-up call from a health-care provider to discuss next steps.
