Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public of a planned fire drill at a construction site on the Health Sciences Complex in St. John’s. The fire drill will take place on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. outside the hospital near the emergency department and is required to meet occupational, health and safety standards as work continues on the redevelopment of the emergency department.

The public in the vicinity can expect to hear an air horn sound three times alerting the construction crew to evacuate the construction site during the drill. Patients, visitors and staff are advised that there will be no impact on services during this drill which is intended for the construction crew only.

The expansion of the emergency department will increase access to quality health care by providing better patient flow, which in turn supports better patient care. NL Health Services thanks the general public for their patience and cooperation as this work to improve the infrastructure and services at the Health Sciences Centre continues.
