Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services announced today that the Practical Nursing Program, offered by the Centre for Nursing Studies, has received seven-year approval status from the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CLPNNL). The seven-year approval status is the highest rating that can be granted under CLPNNL’s approval process, and the program received a score of 100 per cent.

“These results reflect the high quality of nursing education being provided to students in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Debbie Walsh, vice president and chief operating officer of the Eastern-Rural Zone, responsible for the Centre for Nursing Studies. “We are building on the successes of 2022 when the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) (Collaborative) Program also received a seven-year approval status and a score of 100 per cent. The outcome of these approval processes for nursing education programs demonstrates the commitment of faculty, staff, and administration to excellence.”

CLPNNL promotes excellence in nursing practice by applying a rigorous approval and rating process for nursing education programs. Through the process, CLPNNL works to ensure that program graduates are properly prepared to achieve entry-level competencies and ultimately to practice.

“I would like to congratulate and thank all those who contributed to the Practical Nursing Program receiving a seven-year approval with a score of 100 per cent,” said Dr. Kathy Watkins, director for the Centre for Nursing Studies. “We look forward to continuing to offer quality nursing education programs that support nursing students and graduates to ensure they are prepared to practice safely, competently, and ethically.”

The Practical Nursing Program is provided through the Centre for Nursing Studies, the lead institution for practical nursing education in the province. More information about this program and others in the health-care field, as well as information about the range of bursaries and incentives available for students and health-care professionals looking to explore a career in Newfoundland and Labrador, is available by visiting http://www.WorkInHealthNL.ca.
