Posted: August 23, 2023

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public of temporary changes to services at the Bonavista Peninsula Health Centre due to human resource challenges.

Virtual emergency services will be available from:

Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. to Friday, August 25, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.,

When virtual emergency services are in place, residents can proceed to the ER at Bonavista Peninsula Health Centre as usual where they will be assessed and transferred to another hospital, if necessary. The emergency department will be staffed by a nurse practitioner and a respiratory therapist, supported by a physician who will be available virtually.

Emergency services will be temporarily closed from:

Friday, August 25, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. to Sunday, August 27, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.

During this time, patients with a medical emergency who require an ambulance should call 911. Those who feel they have a serious or urgent medical problem should proceed to the nearest open emergency department. If you are unsure if you should go to the emergency department, please call the 811 HealthLine or click here.

Urgent care services will be available on:

Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A limited number of same-day appointments are available via phone or walk-in on a first-come, first-served basis. To make a same-day appointment, patients may call 709-468-7881. Upon arriving onsite, patients are advised to proceed to admitting/registration.

Urgent care is open to patients with or without a family health-care provider, offers access to same-day, urgent, health-care services and is an alternative to visiting an emergency department for non-emergency issues. Examples of patients who may been seen at an urgent care clinic include those who have cold and flu symptoms, fever, earaches, urinary tract infections, rashes, and minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes. More information on urgent care can be found HERE.
