CorCare
On this page
In the largest health-care system implementation ever launched in Newfoundland and Labrador, CorCare will replace many digital health systems with one province-wide health information system (HIS), that will enable the collection, management, storage and transmission of patients’ electronic medical records and will optimize health-care delivery.
Vision
To transform the health-care system by creating a unified electronic patient record through CorCare, connecting clinical information across Newfoundland and Labrador’s health services to improve outcomes for patients, clients and long-term care residents, using modern digital tools and aligning with the objectives of the Health Accord NL.
Goal
To adopt a leading-edge HIS to advance health-care delivery across Newfoundland and Labrador. In alignment with Health Accord NL, CorCare will help transform health-care delivery by standardizing and improving health information across the province. CorCare, will provide a single aggregation point for retrieving patient health information and serve as a documentation system for a variety of health professionals.
Guiding Principles

Implement a patient-first approach, every day, in all decisions.

Implement features according to the contract – if we bought it, we’ll use it.

Project Status
We are currently in the workflow design phase of CoreCare implementation, which coincides with the start of system build.
During this phase, the team follows leading practices as we adopt the Canadian Foundation System, engaging governance groups in decision making, building and configuring the system for NL Health Services, and preparing for product testing.
Our next phase is testing and readiness and is targeted to begin in April. During this phase, we will be closely engaged with key audiences impacted by this transformation.
Clinician engagement and resources
Welcome to CorCare!
We are happy to officially reintroduce you to CorCare, our new health information system (HIS). Previously known by various names such as HIS, Starling, and Epic, CorCare will now serve as the unified identity for both the project and the system. At its core, CorCare is dedicated to prioritizing the needs of our patients, clients, long-term care residents and providers, ensuring enhanced outcomes and high-quality care across the province.
Clinicians are a key part of this transformation. We rely on the commitment of physicians around the province to support, add insight and address impacts of the oncoming transformation caused by CorCare.
If you have any questions our would like to learn more, please reach out to corcare@nlhealthservices.ca. We would be happy to assist you.
