Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services is monitoring the impact of ongoing wildfires impacting areas within the Eastern-Rural and Central Zones.

The Western Bay Medical Clinic is currently closed. Health services for patients in the area have temporarily moved to virtual care where possible and patients with appointments are being contacted individually. Health-care services continue to be available at alternate sites across the Eastern-Rural and Central Zones.

NL Health Services advises patients with a medical emergency to call 911. Ambulances are stationed in the area to respond to emergency calls as walk-in emergency services are not available.

NL Health Services recognizes that this may be a difficult time for people and encourages them to avail of mental health resources, if necessary. The following resources are available:

  • Virtual mental health counselling: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. For more information, call 709-945-6513.
  • Community navigation: Primary health care is available to assist with community navigation from Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. For more information, please call 709-945-6500.
  • Community support: Individuals can reach the on-call social worker at 709-945-6512 (during regular business hours) or 1-833-752-3558 (after hours).
