Ambulatory Health Hub Now Open to Patients
October 21, 2025Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services is pleased today to welcome the first patients and clients to the new ambulatory health hub located at Unity Health Centre, 28 Stavanger Drive (the former Costco building). This new facility provides enhanced outpatient services in a modern clinical environment.
“We are delighted to welcome patients and clients to the new ambulatory health hub today,” said Glenda Webber, chief operating officer (interim) of the Eastern-Urban Zone, NL Health Services. “Creating an ambulatory care services hub supports our approach to people-centred care. We are proud of the enhanced clinic space to bring together services for patients with outpatient appointments. I thank all those who helped to make this move a success – from our patient and family experience advisors, staff, physicians and all those involved in the operational planning.”
The following outpatient services are now being offered at the new site:
- general and internal medicine,
- general surgery,
- total joint assessment clinic/bariatric optimization clinic,
- eye clinic,
- plastic surgery outpatient clinic,
- endocrine clinic,
- thrombosis,
- adult outpatient anticoagulation management services,
- cardiac diagnostics (electrocardiograms and echocardiograms including all walk-in electrocardiograms),
- medical imaging (X-ray machines with walk-in service starting on Monday, November 3, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.),
- orthopedics, and
- audiology.
Additional outpatient services will be relocated to the site in December 2025, including:
- blood collection,
- physiotherapy and occupational therapy,
- ultrasound,
- surgery preadmission clinic, and
- pain clinic (including a fluoroscopy room with dedicated space to provide interventions and infusion therapy for patients with chronic pain).
A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) service is also scheduled to open at the ambulatory health hub in 2026.
Some outpatient services will remain at the Health Sciences Centre and St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital including some on-call medicine and surgery specialist clinics. In addition, ear, nose and throat clinics, and rheumatology will remain at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital. For this reason, patients and clients are reminded to check their appointment letters so that they know which hospital to visit for their scheduled outpatient service. Patients can also visit the NL Health Services Phone Directory (nlhealthservices.ca/contact-us/phone-directory/) if they need to call about their appointments.
“We have been planning and working towards this move for quite some time and our staff and physicians are excited to open the doors and welcome patients,” said Dr. Greg Browne, clinical lead, Health-Care Infrastructure, NL Health Services. “Not only will this new site improve outpatient services for patients and health-care professionals, but the relocation also means that there will be a decrease in vehicular and foot traffic at St. John’s hospitals, which will allow us to expand important inpatient services such as the emergency care, surgery, and cardiology.”
Unity Health Centre provides free parking for patients and staff, a dedicated outdoor space for staff and an onsite coffee shop which is opening in December. There will also be a pharmacy opening in 2026.
The new urgent care centre, also located at Unity Health Centre, is expected to open in late 2025. NL Health Services will share additional information around the opening date with the public once finalized. The urgent care centre will support acute care emergency departments and primary health-care providers by treating patients presenting with urgent, non-life-threatening medical injuries and illnesses.
