NL Health Services Readying to Launch CorCare Health Information System

April 1, 2026

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services is set to launch CorCare, a new province-wide digital health information system at sites across the province on April 25, 2026. This new health system marks the largest digital project to be undertaken to date in Newfoundland and Labrador. It will provide a holistic and coordinated approach to health care for the benefit of patients and health-care providers.

“The launch of CorCare marks a major step forward for health care delivery in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Ron Johnson, CEO (Interim) of NL Health Services. “With patients at the centre, this modern system will improve access to health information, appointment management, and test results, while supporting more personalized care and better health outcomes for people across the province.”

CorCare will create one provincial health information system that replaces multiple outdated and disconnected systems across the province. Health-care providers across NL Health Services sites will have access to the health information they need to care for their patients and clients, in real-time to support a secure and comprehensive health record for every person in the province.

The benefits of the new CorCare system are numerous, including:

  • Enhancing access for patients to their own personal health information through MyChart (a new access point to an enhanced MyHealthNL), a secure online patient portal and mobile app, empowering people to become true partners in their care;
  • Making health care streamlined and more connected for patients across the province;
  • Reducing unnecessary duplication by enabling health-care providers to view previously completed laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging;
  • Providing clinicians with a single, comprehensive, real-time health record for each patient so patients do not have to repeat their medical histories and explanations each time they consult with a new health provider;
  • Providing clinicians with more timely access to current patient information, supporting more informed clinical decisions and the delivery of higher-quality care; and
  • Improving patients’ care throughout their health journey by providing a more integrated and collaborative approach that allows providers to communicate and work together more effectively.

CorCare is a secure health information system that keeps personal health information safe and streamlined. The system enables NL Health Services to remain current with best practices and technological advancements, supporting long-term sustainability.

NL Health Services is working closely with interest holders including the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association (NLMA) to help inform the successful rollout of CorCare.

Training started in February 2026 for more than 20,000 staff, health-care providers and physicians across the province. CorCare is an important step toward a more connected health system. NL Health Services’ goal is to ensure that physicians and health-care care teams feel supported and confident as the system is introduced for the benefit of patients, physicians, and health-care care teams.

To support this, NL Health Services has made significant investments in physician and clinic support. CorCare Link will be phased into community clinics over time and NL Health Services has developed a plan to increase additional physician support during this transition, including in-person support, if required.

In addition, NL Health Services continues to work with patient and family advisors to include their feedback and help CorCare reflect the needs of all patients.

This health information system has been successfully implemented in other health-care settings across Canada and the world. NL Health Services will continue to provide updates on CorCare progress and implementation as well as updates to MyHealthNL, powered by MyChart.

Note to editors: A technical media briefing with members of the executive team about the CorCare project will be held in the coming weeks. Further details will be shared in a media advisory.
