Update on Urgent Care Centre in St. John’s
January 14, 2026Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services is providing an update on the new Urgent Care Centre (east), located at 28 Stavanger Drive in St. John’s. The centre is continuing to see a high number of patients since opening, with approximately 100 patients receiving care on January 12, 2026. We anticipate that the centre may continue to see an increase in demand. If the centre is unable to see new patients due to the daily demand, the phone number (709-777-9111) and voicemail will be updated to advise patients. Before presenting to the urgent care centre, individuals may wish to call ahead.
While the urgent care centre is currently offering walk-in services, individuals will also have the option to book appointments starting on January 20, 2026. Further details on how to book appointments will be provided.
Learn more: Urgent care and how it differs from emergency care
Urgent care bridges the gap between emergency rooms and primary care, offering a different type of care for illnesses or injuries that need quick medical attention but that are not serious enough to require an emergency room visit or immediate hospitalization.
Examples of mild to moderate conditions that are appropriate for urgent care include (but are not limited to):
- injury assessment (such as sprains, strains and minor breaks);
- skin infections, burns and cuts;
- respiratory infections with fever, cough and/or shortness of breath;
- stomach illness with nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea; and
- urinary tract infections.

Urgent care is not suitable for serious medical problems such as chest pain, breathing problems or stroke or stroke-like symptoms. These conditions, among others, require emergency care.
