Temporary Closure of Emergency Services and Virtual ER Availability at Central Zone Sites

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public of an update to emergency services at the following Central Zone sites:   

Temporary Closure 

Lewisporte Health Centre, Lewisporte 

• Wednesday, December 24 at 8:00 a.m. until Friday, December 26 at 8:00 a.m.
   

In case of emergency: Patients with a medical emergency who require an ambulance should call 911. Those who feel they have a serious or urgent medical problem should proceed to the nearest open emergency. If you are unsure if you should go to the emergency department, please call the 811 HealthLine or click here.   

Please note that all other listed emergency services are being supported through a Virtual ER physician.

Virtual ER

A.M. Guy Memorial Health Centre, Buchans

• Friday, December 19 at 8:00 a.m. until Friday, December 26 at 8:00 a.m.

Connaigre Peninsula Health Centre, Harbour Breton

• Tuesday, December 23 at 8:00 a.m. until Thursday, December 25 at 8:00 a.m.

Dr. Y.K. Jeon Kittiwake Health Centre, New-Wes-Valley

• Friday, December 19 at 8:00 a.m. until Friday, December 26 at 8:00 a.m.

Lewisporte Health Centre, Lewisporte

• Friday, December 19 at 4:30 p.m. until Saturday, December 20 at 8:00 a.m.
• Monday, December 22 at 4:30 p.m. until Tuesday, December 23 at 8:00 a.m.
• Tuesday, December 23 at 4:30 p.m. until Wednesday, December 24 at 8:00 a.m.

When a virtual ER is operating: Residents can proceed to the ER as usual where they will be assessed and transferred to another hospital, if necessary. The emergency department staff will be supported by a physician who will be available virtually.

811 HealthLine is available 24/7 to provide:

• medical advice (including virtual nurse practitioner appointments);
• health information; and
• support in a mental health crisis.
