Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public that emergency services are being supported through a Virtual ER physician at Calder Health Centre in Burgeo from: 

• Wednesday, March 11 at 8:00 a.m. until Wednesday, March 12 at 8:00 a.m. 

When a virtual ER is operating: Residents can proceed to the ER at Calder Health Centre as usual where they will be assessed and transferred to another hospital, if necessary. The emergency department staff will be supported by a physician who will be available virtually.

In case of emergency: Patients with a medical emergency who require an ambulance should call 911. Those who feel they have a serious or urgent medical problem should proceed to the nearest open emergency. Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public that routine (walk-in) X-ray services at the Deer Lake Medical Clinic are temporarily unavailable until Monday, March 16 at 8:00 a.m.

If X-ray services are required, patients may choose to travel to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook. This temporary disruption will not affect the services provided by the laboratory department.

If routine medical imaging services are required, patients may choose to travel to another health-care facility. This temporary disruption will not affect the services provided by the emergency and laboratory departments.

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public that work is ongoing to resolve an interruption to telephone services currently impacting Bay St. George Long Term Care Home in Stephenville Crossing.

NL Health Services is working with the service provider to resolve this matter. In the interim, the public can call the temporary switchboard line at 709-646-5800 to have their call redirected.

Visitor Precautions

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public that visitor precautions are in place for A.M. Guy Memorial Health Centre in Buchans, effective Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

Visitation is permitted; however, the public is being cautioned about the presence of respiratory illness in the facility. For additional information, visitors may call 709-672-3304.

When visitor precautions are in effect, individuals should refrain from visiting unless necessary. Immediate family members should contact the facility before arriving. Those who do visit are asked to follow guidance as outlined by staff, which includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Visitor precautions are a series of infection control measures put in place to reduce the risk of spreading infectious diseases which are common in health-care facilities. Visitation is permitted but reduced to one visitor or support person per patient. The public is being advised about the potential presence of acute respiratory infections in this facility.
