Introducing the da Vinci Xi: Advancing Surgical Care Closer to Home
November 27, 2025
The implementation of the da Vinci Xi Robotic-Assisted Surgical System is a major advancement in the delivery of surgical care within the province. This innovative technology enhances surgical precision, supports improved patient outcomes, and expands access to minimally invasive procedures for residents across the province.
The addition of the system is expected to continue to reduce surgery times, shorten patient recovery periods, and significantly reduce the need for out-of-province travel to access specialized surgical services.
By bringing this capability closer to home, we are strengthening our commitment to high-quality, evidence-based care for the communities we serve.
Quick facts
A total of 220 robotic-assisted procedures have been completed since April 2025, spanning urology, gynecologic oncology and colorectal surgery.
Length of stay improvements are being seen for patients whose procedures are now completed robotically, supporting faster recovery and earlier discharge.
Eight surgeons and 40 operating room nurses have received specialized robotic training to support the program.
The average robotic system case time is two hours and 38 minutes, supporting efficient completion of complex procedures.
