New Care Coordination Centre to Improve Access to Specialized Care Across Newfoundland and Labrador

April 24, 2026

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services is launching a new province-wide Care Coordination Centre (C3) to better coordinate access to specialized care, streamline in-patient and emergency department transfers between facilities, and support timely access to appropriate care. The Care Coordination Centre will be integrated into the new provincial health information system, CorCare, and will go live on April 25, 2026.

“The Care Coordination Centre, or C3, represents an important step forward in strengthening how care is delivered across Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Debbie Molloy, vice president of Human Resources, NL Health Services. “By providing centralized coordination and support for physicians and care teams, we can move patients more efficiently through the system across the province, better align care with available capacity, and support access to specialized services.”

The Care Coordination Centre is a centralized service led by registered nurses (RN) that will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Through a single intake phone line, referring physicians call the C3 team, who will coordinate:

  • specialist consultations and interfacility in-patient transfers, and
  • emergency department (ED) to emergency department (ED) transfers, including transfers back to locations closer to home when appropriate.

“The concurrent introduction of the Care Coordination Centre with CorCare is a significant advancement for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Dr. Richard Barter, clinical chief for emergency medicine in Eastern-Urban Zone, NL Health Services. “Transporting patients who are sick or injured to the right place to receive care from the right provider based on their needs as quickly as possible can save lives.”

The Care Coordination Centre will support a more responsive health system. By improving coordination between providers and facilities, NL Health Services aims to ease pressure on the system, support more equitable use of resources across the province, improve patient flow and improve overall patient outcomes.
