NL Health Services Apologizes for the Recent Cybersecurity Awareness Exercise

June 17, 2026

NL Health Services apologizes for the recent cybersecurity awareness exercise that was sent to employees and physicians. We recognize the concerns raised about the use of a fictitious scenario of an additional paid day off as part of a phishing simulation.

“We acknowledge the approach taken in this particular exercise was not appropriate, and we sincerely apologize to employees, physicians and union representatives,” said Ron Johnson, chief executive officer (interim), NL Health Services. “We value the feedback and are reviewing how future awareness exercises are developed and communicated. It is important they reflect employee and physician perspectives, as well as our organizational values to foster a respectful and supportive workplace culture.”

NL Health Services is grateful for the dedication of employees and physicians for their continued commitment to patient care, including the recent exhaustive efforts that went into the launch of the new health information system.

Protecting patient information and the systems that support care requires ongoing awareness, vigilance and a shared commitment across the organization. NL Health Services remains committed to refining its cybersecurity awareness and training initiatives.
