Posted: July 20, 2024

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services is pleased to advise residents that health-care services at the Labrador West Health Centre in Labrador City will return to normal operations in a phased approach over the coming days. This follows the recent announcement of a partial lifting of the evacuation order by the Provincial Government.

Phased Approach to Resumption of Services

Our priority continues to be ensuring the safety of our employees and physicians, as well as providing safe, quality care to our patients, clients and residents. Preparations are underway for a gradual safe return to normal operations at the Labrador West Health Centre.

Further public updates on the phased reopening of services will be provided as plans are finalized. We appreciate the public’s understanding as we begin to bring our employees back to the community and prepare for a timely reopening.

Medical Emergencies

For the time being, the Labrador West Health Centre remains closed to patients. Individuals with a medical emergency should call 911. Ambulances continue to be on standby to respond to emergency calls as walk-in emergency services are not available.

Primary Care and Prescriptions

We are reminding residents from Labrador West who are displaced or impacted by the wildfire to continue to call 811 for urgent/non-emergent health issues, primary health-care services and medication-related concerns, including prescription refills.

The temporary ambulatory care clinic remains located and operational in Wabush. If an in-person visit is required, appointments will be arranged through 811. Residents will be contacted directly with an appointment time.

811 HealthLine is available 24/7 to provide:

• medical advice (including virtual nurse practitioner appointments which can usually be accommodated within three days);

• health information; and

• support in a mental health crisis.
