Request for Proposals for Space for Deer Lake Health Centre

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services recently issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for an expanded health-care centre in the Deer Lake region. The new space will consolidate all existing health services in the Deer Lake area from the two current service locations into a single site and will eventually include the Deer Lake-White Bay Family Care Team announced in Budget 2023. Through this Family Care Team, access to Primary Care will be enhanced to residents in the area and this space will provide the most appropriate environment to support this work.

The requested space will be over 30,000 sq. feet and will include a variety of health services such as Primary Health Care, Diagnostic Services, Community Health, and Mental Health and Addictions.

Budget 2023 included more than $21 million to fund 10 more Family Care Teams for the 2023-24 fiscal year and work is ongoing to add an eleventh on the Burin Peninsula.

Family Care Teams are in the process of being established across the province to help meet the primary care needs of residents throughout the province. Upon full implementation, these new Family Care Teams will provide access to primary care for up to 80,000 people. This includes three teams for the Western Zone including Stephenville Bay St George, Port aux Basques and Deer Lake. These teams can include family physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, as well as other allied health professionals.
