At NL Health Services, we are currently working on updating and consolidating policies across the Provincial Health Authority to ensure a more consistent approach to care and service delivery. In the meantime, the following general policies and practices are in place at health-care facilities across Newfoundland and Labrador:

Latex
Latex is found in rubber products and can cause severe allergic reactions.

  • If you have a latex allergy, it is important to inform us in advance of your stay.  Special arrangements will be made for your surgical procedure and hospital care.
  • Rubber balloons are not permitted in any of our hospitals.  Only mylar (metallic) balloons are permitted.

Scent Safety
Do not use or bring in scented products while visiting our health-care sites. Please refrain from using or wearing scented products when our staff visit your home.

Scented and perfumed products contain chemicals which can cause serious problems for people with asthma, allergies and sensitivities. These products include:

  • Perfume/cologne,
  • Deodorant/aftershave,
  • Hair spray/body spray,
  • Scented creams and lotions, and
  • Candles/air fresheners.

Smoke Free
We are committed to supporting health among the people and communities of Newfoundland and Labrador and are proud to say that our facilities and grounds are smoke-free.
