Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public that emergency services are being supported through a Virtual ER physician at the following Central Zone sites:

A.M. Guy Memorial Health Centre, Buchans

  • Saturday, November 29 from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m. until Friday, December 5 at 8:00 a.m.

Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, Baie Verte

  • Tuesday, December 2 at 8:00 a.m. until Wednesday, December 3 at 8:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, December 4 at 8:00 a.m. until Friday, December 5 at 8:00 a.m.

Dr. Y.K. Jeon Kittiwake Health Centre, New-Wes-Valley

  • Friday, November 28 at 8:00 a.m. until Friday, December 5 at 8:00 a.m.

When a virtual ER is operating: Residents can proceed to the ER as usual where they will be assessed and transferred to another hospital, if necessary. The emergency department staff will be supported by a physician who will be available virtually.

In case of emergency: Patients with a medical emergency who require an ambulance should call 911. Those who feel they have a serious or urgent medical problem should proceed to the nearest open emergency. Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public of a temporary disruption of laboratory services at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre, in Botwood until:

  • Monday, December 1 at 8:30 a.m.

Emergency blood collection services are not affected at this time. If routine laboratory services are required, patients may choose to travel to another health-care facility. This temporary disruption will not affect the services provided by the emergency and medical imaging departments.

Virtual ER services will be available from:

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services is advising patients and clients that blood collection services at the Major’s Path Clinic will move to the new ambulatory health hub at Unity Health Centre located at 28 Stavanger Drive (the former Costco building). Starting on December 16, 2025, individuals with appointments for bloodwork should proceed to the Unity Health centre between 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

Clients may continue to book blood collection appointments at the ambulatory health hub online at https://nlhealthservices.ca/servicelisting/blood-collection/ or they can call 709-777-6933 or 1-833-409-2734, between 7:00 a.m. and 2:45 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Any appointments previously booked for Major’s Path for December 16, 2025 or after will be automatically transferred to the ambulatory health hub. Clients will be advised of the change in location in their reminder notifications.

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises that on-site emergency and primary care coverage at the Labrador South Health Centre in Forteau will be supported through virtual services effective Friday, February 14, 2025.  

When a virtual ER is operating: Residents can proceed to Labrador South Health Centre in Forteau where there will continue to be a health-care provider available to support patient care on-site and to assist with virtual care.  

Virtual ERs help ensure emergency care coverage 24 hours per day, seven days per week to emergency departments that may experience challenges with local physician coverage. During a virtual ER, residents can proceed to the ER as usual. There will be a health-care professional onsite, as well as a physician or nurse practitioner (NP) by video. In many respects, a Virtual ER operates the same as a traditional Emergency Room.  

In case of emergency: Patients with a medical emergency who require an ambulance should call 911. Those who feel they have a serious or urgent medical problem should proceed to their nearest emergency department. If you are unsure if you should go to the emergency department, please call the 811 HealthLine. 

Virtual primary care: Provincial virtual primary care services are available to individuals who do not have a primary care provider (family doctor or nurse practitioner) and have registered with Patient Connect NL. Virtual primary care is an additional service option that can provide diagnosis and treatment for numerous common illnesses with the use of innovative technology.

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public that laboratory services (blood collection) will be temporarily unavailable at the Mani Ashini Community Clinic in Sheshatshiu. Other services provided at the Mani Ashini Community Clinic will proceed as usual.

During this time, patients may choose to proceed to the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley – Goose Bay for routine laboratory services (blood collection).

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public that visitor precautions are in place for Grand Falls-Windsor Long-term Care Home (Flower Lane) effective, Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

Visitation is permitted but the public is being cautioned about the presence of respiratory illness in this area the facility.

For more information, visitors may call 709-672-3304.

If a precaution is in effect, individuals should refrain from visiting when possible, and immediate family members should contact the facility before visiting. If visiting, please follow guidance as outlined by staff, which includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Visitor precautions are a series of infection control measures put in place to reduce the risk of spreading infectious diseases which are common in health-care facilities.
