Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public that emergency services are being supported through a Virtual ER physician at the following Central Zone sites:

A.M. Guy Memorial Health Centre, Buchans
Saturday, February 21 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Monday, February 23 at 10:00 a.m. until Friday, February 27 at 8:00 a.m.

Connaigre Peninsula Community Health Centre, Harbour Breton
Thursday, February 26 at 8:00 a.m. until Friday, February 27 at 8:00 a.m.

Fogo Island Health Centre, Fogo Island
Friday, February 20 at 8:00 a.m. until Monday, February 23 at 8:00 a.m.

Lewisporte Health Centre, Lewisporte
Wednesday, February 25 at 4:30 p.m. until Thursday, February 26 at 8:00 a.m.

When a virtual ER is operating: Residents can proceed to the ER as usual where they will be assessed and transferred to another hospital, if necessary. The emergency department staff will be supported by a physician who will be available virtually.

In case of emergency: Patients with a medical emergency who require an ambulance should call 911. Those who feel they have a serious or urgent medical problem should proceed to the nearest open emergency. Other information:
811 HealthLine is available 24/7 to provide:
medical advice (including virtual nurse practitioner appointments);
health information; and
support in a mental health crisis.

Visitor Precautions

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public that visitor precautions are in place for the Restorative Care Unit at the Western Long Term Care Home, effective Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Visitation is permitted; however, the public is being cautioned about the presence of influenza in the facility. For additional information, visitors may call 709-784-6169.

When visitor precautions are in effect, individuals should refrain from visiting unless necessary. Immediate family members should contact the facility before arriving. Those who do visit are asked to follow guidance as outlined by staff, which includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Visitor precautions are a series of infection control measures put in place to reduce the risk of spreading infectious diseases, which are common in health-care facilities. Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public that visitor precautions are currently in place for the Bay St. George Long-Term Care Centre in Stephenville Crossing.

Visitation is permitted but reduced to one visitor or support person per patient. The public is being advised about the potential presence of acute respiratory infections in this facility.
